Description

This minifigure represents a US D-Day Corporal who took part in the D-Day landings of June 6, 1944, when Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in one of the largest amphibious invasions in history. Corporals were junior non-commissioned officers, tasked with leading small groups of men under fire, keeping order, and ensuring commands from sergeants and lieutenants were carried out effectively.

On D-Day, US forces landed at sectors including Utah Beach and the heavily fortified Omaha Beach, where Corporals led soldiers under withering German fire from entrenched bunkers and machine gun nests. Despite enormous losses, their leadership was essential in maintaining momentum and breaking through German defences.

The figure’s uniform reflects the M1941 field jacket and web gear, with additional ammunition pouches, entrenching tool, and the distinctive M1 helmet, often covered with netting or scrim for camouflage. Corporals were armed with the M1 Garand rifle or sometimes the M1 carbine, weapons that combined reliability with rapid firepower.

As junior leaders, corporals had the crucial responsibility of steadying new recruits — many of whom were experiencing their first combat on D-Day. They organized fire teams, ensured supplies were distributed, and sometimes acted as de facto squad leaders if higher-ranking NCOs were killed or wounded.

The minifigure embodies the resilience of US troops at Normandy, where individual courage and small-unit leadership turned the tide in humanity’s largest seaborne invasion.
