Description

This minifigure depicts a US Army medic of the Second World War, one of the most heroic and selfless roles on the battlefield. Medics were tasked with providing emergency care under fire, stabilizing wounded soldiers, and evacuating them to safety — often while unarmed and exposed to enemy fire.

Under the Geneva Conventions, medics were considered non-combatants, clearly marked with the Red Cross symbol on their helmets and armbands. While this was meant to provide protection, in practice medics often came under attack, whether by accident in the chaos of battle or deliberately. Despite this, they continued their work, risking their lives to save others.

The medic’s uniform was the same as that of regular infantry — olive drab fatigues, the M1 steel helmet, and standard webbing — but with medical insignia that distinguished him from riflemen. Equipment included medical pouches filled with bandages, morphine sachets, sulpha powder, and scissors, as well as litters and plasma kits for treating the seriously wounded. Unlike combat troops, many medics carried only a pistol, and some refused to carry weapons at all, choosing to dedicate themselves entirely to saving lives.

US Army medics played critical roles in nearly every major campaign: storming the beaches of Normandy, rescuing the wounded in the frozen forests during the Battle of the Bulge, and tending to men in the sweltering jungles of the Pacific. Stories abound of medics who continued their work even when wounded themselves, earning medals such as the Silver Star and Medal of Honour for their extraordinary courage.
