Description

An Unmounted Spanish Cuirassier, a heavily armoured and formidable cavalryman.

Horses were relatively rare in Spain during the latter parts of the Napoleonic wars. Thus the number of heavy cavalry regiments available in the Spanish army was limited. Still the Spanish Cuirassier was armed with repurposed French Cuirass breast and back plating along with sword and carbine. The uniform was provided by the British and so was red coloured in contrast to the French equivalent.
