In 1810, Napoleon annexed the Kingdom or Holland and thousands of Dutch were absorbed and or conscripted into the French Army. The Dragoons in Napoleon’s la Grand Armée had a mixed reputation in battle. Dragoons were considered light cavalry trained to fight in combat with swords and pistols on horseback. Due to their versatility they were considered the workhorse of Napoleon’s cavalry forces and were used on scouting, anti-guerrilla deployments.
