Description

The QBU-88 Sniper Rifle, also known as the Type 88, is a designated marksman rifle developed in China and introduced in 1988. Chambered in 5.8×42mm, it was designed to complement the standard service rifles of the People’s Liberation Army. It also provided enhanced long-range precision. Its bullpup configuration allowed for a full-length barrel without increasing overall length, making it compact yet effective.

Weighing just over 9 pounds, the QBU-88 has an effective range of about 600–800 meters. It features a semi-automatic action, detachable magazines, and compatibility with optical scopes. It has been used in both standard infantry roles and specialized marksman deployments, reflecting China’s effort to modernize its small arms for the late 20th century.

In terms of historical deployment, the QBU-88 has been seen in service with both the PLA and various Chinese security forces, with limited export to allied nations. While not as well-known globally as Western rifles, it represents a uniquely Chinese approach to the designated marksman role.

For collectors, this minifigure-scale rifle is ideal for representing modern PLA forces or futuristic armies. Its bullpup design makes it visually distinct, ensuring it stands out in any diorama or figure display.
