Description

Mounted Carabinier minifigure represents one of France’s most elite heavy cavalry units, renowned for their imposing stature, gleaming armour, and battlefield ferocity. Originally formed as light troops, the Carabiniers evolved into heavy cavalry by the Napoleonic Wars, distinguished by their tall bearskin helmets and, after 1810, their shining brass cuirasses. These soldiers were the shock troops of the French cavalry arm, designed to break enemy lines with sheer force.

Carabiniers gained fame at battles like Eylau in 1807, where they charged through blizzards against Russian forces, suffering heavy casualties but earning a reputation for fearless determination. At Wagram in 1809, their performance was so courageous—yet costly—that Napoleon ordered them re-equipped with breastplates to better withstand musket fire. Their transformation into armoured juggernauts made them a formidable presence on the battlefield.

At Borodino in 1812, the Carabiniers thundered across Russian fields, their armour glinting in the sun as they clashed with entrenched troops. Though often facing horrendous losses, they embodied the spirit of relentless assault that defined French heavy cavalry. Their massive horses and disciplined formations could smash through infantry squares or overwhelm opposing cavalry.

The Carabiniers were not just fighters but also symbols of prestige. Recruitment favoured tall, imposing men who looked as awe-inspiring as they fought. Their presence in Napoleon’s army projected strength and intimidation, boosting morale among French troops and striking fear in adversaries.

Though often overshadowed by the more famous cuirassiers, the Carabiniers earned a special place in Napoleonic lore as one of the Emperor’s most trusted hammer blows. At Waterloo, they rode alongside cuirassiers in Ney’s great cavalry charges, surging again and again against the Allied lines in desperate attempts to break through.

This minifigure captures the armoured magnificence of the Carabinier, ideal for any Napoleonic collection. With its shining cuirass, towering presence, and storied battlefield history, it embodies the grandeur and ferocity of France’s heavy cavalry at their peak.
