Description
The Mk2 frag grenades were nicknamed the “pineapple grenade” due to its segmented cast-iron body. The Mk2 was the standard issue hand grenade of the U.S. military from World War I through the Vietnam War. Introduced in 1918, it weighed about 1 lb 5 oz (595 g) and had a timed fuse of 4–5 seconds. The segmented body was designed to produce shrapnel upon detonation, making it highly effective in clearing enemy trenches or fortified positions. By World War II, millions of Mk2 grenades were produced and deployed, becoming one of the most recognizable symbols of U.S. infantry equipment.
