The M4A1 carbine is the quintessential modern U.S. military rifle, chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO. Lightweight, modular, and widely deployed since the 1990s, it remains the standard for American forces. The M4A1 with Masterkey system, developed in the 1980s, is an under-barrel 12-gauge shotgun designed for breaching doors. Together, they form a fearsome combination of assault rifle and tactical shotgun.

The M4A1 itself weighs about 3 kg and has an effective range of 500–600 meters. Adding the Masterkey provides close-quarters versatility, allowing operators to switch from rifle fire to powerful shotgun blasts without changing weapons. The Masterkey uses standard 12-gauge shells and carries three rounds in its tubular magazine.
