Description

This minifigure depicts a German Waffen-SS infantryman wearing the distinctive oak leaf camouflage pattern. This was one of the first systematic military camouflage designs used in modern warfare. The Waffen-SS, originally conceived as Hitler’s elite political troops, evolved into a massive fighting force that participated in nearly every major campaign of World War II.

By 1942, the Waffen-SS began issuing unique camouflage smocks and helmet covers, distinguishing them from regular Wehrmacht troops. The oak leaf pattern (Eichenlaubmuster), introduced in 1943, consisted of mottled greens, browns, and blacks designed to blend effectively into European woodlands across spring, summer, and autumn. It was a revolutionary step, influencing military camouflage patterns worldwide in the post-war era.

The infantryman himself was typically armed with a Karabiner 98k bolt-action rifle, or, in later years, the StG 44 assault rifle, considered the world’s first true assault weapon. Squad firepower was centred around the MG42 machine gun, nicknamed “Hitler’s buzzsaw” for its blistering rate of fire. Alongside these weapons, SS soldiers carried standard gear: bread bags, canteens, gas mask canisters, and ammunition pouches.

The Waffen-SS fought in many of the most brutal battles of the war — including the Eastern Front, the Battle of Kursk, the Normandy campaign, and the Battle of the Bulge. While their combat effectiveness was often praised, their ideological foundation tied them directly to the crimes of the Nazi regime, making their legacy controversial.

This minifigure captures the striking appearance of an SS soldier in oak leaf camouflage, complete with printed smock details, field gear, and helmet design. It serves as both a collectible piece of military history and a reminder of the innovations — and darker consequences — of Germany’s elite formations.

Includes 1 minifigure disassembled and 1 MP40 plastic replica submachine gun.
