Description

Clone Commandos were among the most elite soldiers produced by the Grand Army of the Republic. Unlike standard clone troopers, a Clone Commando was genetically modified for enhanced strength, intelligence, and independence. From their earliest training, commandos were conditioned to operate in small squads with minimal oversight, often undertaking missions considered too dangerous or complex for conventional forces.

Clone Commandos were primarily deployed for special operations, including sabotage of Separatist infrastructure, targeted eliminations, intelligence extraction, and infiltration of heavily fortified installations. These missions were typically conducted deep behind enemy lines, requiring commandos to rely on teamwork, adaptability, and advanced combat training rather than sheer numbers. As a result, they often answered directly to Republic Special Operations Command instead of Jedi generals.

In both canon and Legends material, Clone Commandos are portrayed as more autonomous than regular clones, forming strong bonds within their squads and developing distinct personalities. This independence sometimes placed them at odds with the broader Republic military hierarchy, particularly as the war progressed and losses mounted. Their effectiveness made them invaluable assets, but also isolated them from the rest of the clone army.

Following Order 66, many Clone Commandos were absorbed directly into Imperial service, continuing to operate as elite enforcers during the Empire’s early years. Their skills made them well suited to suppressing resistance movements and hunting high-value targets.
