Description

The British Sten submachine gun was a product of necessity, designed and manufactured under the pressure of wartime Britain in 1941. In this period of the war, the nation desperately needed a cost-effective submachine gun to arm its forces. Officially known as the “Sten Machine Carbine,” it derived its name from the initials of its designers, Major Reginald Shepherd and Harold Turpin. The “En” for Enfield is also where it was developed. Chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum, the Sten was designed to be simple, lightweight, and incredibly inexpensive to mass produce. Some versions costing less than three dollars at the time.

Its design included a side-mounted 32-round magazine, a tubular receiver, and minimal moving parts. Its relatively straight-forward design allowed more than four million units to be manufactured during the Second World War. The weapon had a modest rate of fire at about 500 rounds per minute. While not as refined as its German or American counterparts, its ease of use and adaptability made it a crucial part of the British and Commonwealth arsenal. The Sten also became synonymous with European resistance groups. It’s compact size and simplicity often allowed for clandestine use in occupied territories.

As a minifigure accessory, this product matches the rough utility and unmistakable profile of the Sten gun. The barrel, skeletal stock, and side-loading magazine are rendered well in miniature. Minifigure enthusiasts can add one of history’s most practical and widely distributed submachine guns to their armies. .
