Description
The HK XM8 was a prototype assault rifle developed by Heckler & Koch in the early 2000s as part of a U.S. Army program to replace the M16/M4 family. Chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO, the XM8 featured futuristic polymer construction, integrated optics, and a modular design allowing configurations from carbine to light machine gun.
Despite promising performance, the program was cancelled in 2005 due to budget concerns and shifting priorities. However, the XM8 left a lasting cultural impact, appearing in video games and movies as a symbol of futuristic weaponry.
The rifle weighed around 2.7–3.6 kg depending on configuration, with an effective range of 300–600 meters. Its advanced ergonomics and low maintenance needs impressed testers, even if it never reached mass production.
For collectors, the XM8 minifigure accessory is an icon of “what could have been.” Its sci-fi appearance and experimental legacy make it a standout piece in any collection.
