Description
In the mid 18th century Napoleon’s Grenadiers regiments were considered the elite infantry of the French Army. Typically they were only admitted to the Grenadier corps after completing 5 years of service with near perfect military record. Grenadiers wore indigo-blue uniforms with crimson facings and white breeches.
Grenadiers were easily identifiable on the battlefield and they were used in decisive and difficult moments. They specialised in throwing grenades and thus needed to be tall, strong and brave. They were nicknamed ‘Grumblers’ affectionately by Napoleon and the officers among them were often of distinguished service.
