This minifigure represents a US Airborne Division Sergeant, a non-commissioned officer (NCO) leading America’s elite paratroopers during World War II. The Airborne divisions — including the 101st “Screaming Eagles” and the 82nd “All-American” — earned lasting fame for their daring combat jumps and fierce fighting across Europe.

Airborne sergeants were the backbone of the paratrooper units. As NCOs, they commanded squads, maintained discipline, and inspired confidence during the most chaotic operations. Their leadership proved vital during the D-Day landings (June 6, 1944), when airborne forces parachuted behind enemy lines in Normandy to seize bridges, disrupt communications, and block German reinforcements. Despite heavy losses, their actions paved the way for Allied success on the beaches.

The minifigure captures the Airborne’s distinctive look: M1942 paratrooper jumpsuit, reinforced with knee and elbow patches, and the M1 steel helmet often fitted with camouflage netting and chin straps unique to airborne gear. Equipment included webbing with ammunition pouches, grenades, knives, and the paratrooper’s signature M1A1 folding stock carbine — light, compact, and ideal for airborne troops. Many also carried Thompson submachine guns or Garand rifles depending on their roles.

Airborne sergeants also fought in the Operation Market Garden (1944) in the Netherlands, the Battle of the Bulge (1944–45) at Bastogne, and during the crossing of the Rhine. They were often dropped behind enemy lines at night, scattered across the countryside, and forced to regroup under fire. Their training, toughness, and initiative made them some of the most respected soldiers in the U.S. Army.
