Description
The British Line Infantry soldier is the mainstay of the Red Coat army.
In the 19th century the British army went through exceptional changes to to ensure they could fight in a variety of wars all across the world. Line Infantry, the back-bone of Red Coat army had a harsh life; with strict discipline terrifying battlegrounds and punishment for even minor disobedience. This is one of many reasons why the British became hugely influential and powerful in Europe during the course of the century.
Line infantry in the British Army are foot soldiers, expected to fire volleys of shot from musket walls at the command of the officer corps. Typically, the British Army would fire 2-3 rounds per minute in a combined wall of fire, before each soldier then began firing at their own discretion. Volleys from lines of infantry were devastating due to a wall of gunfire demolishing opposing files of infantry and cavalry.
